Running in Cow Country

is it pissed or not

The mesa is open range meaning their are cows along various parts of the course. Helpful information for running in cow country. you must avoid surprising the cows at close range. If the terrain makes it hard for them to see you as you approach, make lots of noise. Talk loudly, wear a bell, sing the Monty Python Lumberjack song. If  you are spotted by a cow, try to get its attention while  it is a good distance away. Help the cow to  recognize that you are human by talking to it in a normal voice, waving your arms. Try not to travel alone. In a group, cows will attack the weakest link. Try and run with people much slower and fatter than yourself and if the cows rush you, point at that obnoxious guy with the short legs that has complained the entire run..   Next time Bear safety.

2012 Course Map

The Map is broken down into three colors. The 100 milers do all Three. The 50 milers do the red and purple sections and the 60K is the red. All runners start with the loop on the red section, the straight section on the red section is an out and back from the Lodge to Flowing Park.

Some Info On lodgeing

The closest place to stay is the Grand Mesa Lodge which is the start/ finish area. They have 12 cabins and a several rooms If you are thinking about staying here it is best to reserve a spot now. http://www.grandmesalodge.com/     For other motels the closest place is Cedaredge which is 18 miles from the start their are several motels. Whats up for 2012.
The 34 and 50 mile course will remain the same. The 100 mile will see a small change. we will be moving the mesa lakes aid station to an easier place to find. and the mesa lakes section will be a loop again instead of an out and back.  the web site will be updated with the changes soon.
